Privacy
In short: Rap France works offline and keeps nothing about you. Only Multiplayer mode and the Discord Activity, which you start yourself, go through the Internet: they exchange just what the players need, with no account and no free chat, and keep none of it.
The game
- No account, no ads, no analytics.
- Your projects and videos stay on your PC (
%APPDATA%\Rap France ClipsandVideos\Rap France). - The “Playing Rap France” Discord status only goes through the Discord app running on your PC; you can turn it off in Settings › Discord.
- Outside of Multiplayer mode, the game sends nothing over the Internet.
Multiplayer mode (2 to 4 players)
The game connects to the Rap France game server (multi.rap-france.com, hosted by Cloudflare) only when you open the Multiplayer screen. Here is everything that goes through it:
- The game code (6 characters) and its settings: private or public, the level or the set, the track, the artist, the prep time, the Mishaps.
- A random nickname (for example “Director Pigeon 42”), the avatar you pick from a list and your roles (Set designer, DoP, Gaffer or Choreographer). Not your name, not your email address, not your Discord username (except in the Discord Activity, see below).
- Game actions: the props, lights and cameras on set, your cursor, your “pings”, the reactions and quick phrases (picked from lists: no free text goes through), your moves during the take.
- Your IP address, which Cloudflare processes while you are connected in order to deliver the data. The Rap France server does not record it; to curb abuse (games created in bursts), it keeps a non-reversible fingerprint of it for one minute at most, in memory, never written down.
Nothing is kept. A game only exists while you play: it is erased 15 minutes after the last player leaves, and at the latest 4 hours after it was created. The server keeps no player logs. A public game shows up in the list (host's nickname and avatar, settings) only while it is waiting for a second player.
Your video stays on your PC: each player can export it on their side.
In Discord (the Rap France Activity)
In a Discord voice channel, you can launch Rap France without installing anything: it is an “Activity”, served by activite.rap-france.com (hosted by Cloudflare). The whole channel lands in the same multiplayer game.
- What Discord passes on to us, only if you accept (the “identify” permission, the smallest one): your Discord ID and display name. They are only used to show you in the game, to your game partner. Not your email address, not your servers, not your messages. If you decline, a random nickname is used.
- Discord also gives the game the ID of the Activity open in the channel: it is used to put the whole channel in the same game.
- Nothing is kept: your display name only exists in the game, which is erased like any other (15 minutes after the last player leaves, 4 hours at most). No account, no logs.
- Your videos stay in Discord's browser, on your device; the video cannot be downloaded there (the PC game exports videos).
- Discord also applies its own privacy rules.
Later: Steam
If Rap France comes to Steam, Steam will also apply its own rules, and this page will be updated beforehand.
